Please join us…Community Day at UROC—September 20, 2011
All are invited to an open house celebration on September 20 kicking off the third year of the University of Minnesota Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center.
Please join us for UROC Community Day, an informal and festive afternoon that will include special activities, exhibits, and a reception for all to enjoy. The event will showcase our expanding community-university collaborations addressing priority issues in education, health, and economic development.
The open house will also feature a visit by the new president of the University of Minnesota, Eric Kaler, who will attend UROC Community Day as part of his inauguration week. Filmmaker Dan Bergin will stop by to offer a sneak peek of Cornerstones: Stories of Place on the Northside, the documentary the University is producing with TPT about some of the many stories making up the rich history of North Minneapolis.
The daylong event will offer chances to sample basil ice cream developed by the Arboretum's Urban Garden Youth Employment Program, a UROC-based project. Other UROC program activities will include cooking demonstrations by Minnesota Extension's Simply Good Eating program; free health screenings by the Center for Health Equity (CHE); and drop-in computer classes with trainers from the Broadband Access Project (BAP).
Other highlights include the opening of a special exhibition in the UROC gallery, "Profiles in Partnership," paying tribute to some of the many community and university people who work together to realize the shared UROC vision of a vibrant North Side.
